Character in Leadership Fall Conference set for Nov. 10

Tickets are available for Jamestown College’s sixth annual Character in Leadership Fall Conference featuring a keynote address by Roxana Saberi, an Iranian-American journalist falsely accused of spying and imprisoned in Iran’s Evin Prison in 2009.

The Conference will take place on Thursday, Nov. 10 in the Reiland Fine Arts Center on the campus of Jamestown College.

Seating for the public is limited to 250 persons.

 The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception in the Reiland Fine Arts Center Lobby. At 6:30 p.m., attendees will select from three breakout seminars. The seminar presenters are the Rev. Terry Anderson, pastor of Montpelier (N.D.) Lutheran Church; Monica Hannan, news director and anchor at KFYR, Bismarck, N.D.; and Steve Listopad, assistant professor of communication and director of the Student Media Center at Jamestown College.

Saberi’s keynote address will follow at 7:30 p.m. in DeNault Auditorium.

Saberi is the author of “Between Two Worlds: My Life and Captivity in Iran.” Originally from Fargo, N.D., she worked as a journalist in Tehran, Iran, beginning in 2003 for the independent broadcast news agency Feature Story News. While researching a book on Iran, she was arrested on Jan. 31, 2009 and was accused of being a spy. She was freed on May 11, 2009. Since her release, she has spoken out for Iran’s “prisoners of conscience” and has joined others in bringing attention to human rights violations in Iran.

The Character in Leadership Program allows Jamestown College and the greater community to work together to shape a new generation of ethical leaders. The program is sponsored by the Edson and Margaret Larson Foundation.
