There are two ways you can use this wireless network. Both start out the same way. Use your wireless software to connect to this wireless network. Once connected, open up a web browser. You will be taken to a "portal" website. Here you can either type in your email address in the guest login OR you can use your JC username and password in the login box. Either way will connect you, however, the guest login will only give you internet access at a reduced rate of 256kb. If you need to have access to the JC network then you need to use your username and password. Once connected you can then use the JCNetwork.zip file to connect to your network drives.

To connect to the JC wireless network with Windows XP, minimally you need SP1 installed or a wireless client that allows WPA-TKI connectivity.

Also, if you have any manufacturer program that manages wireless networks, these instructions will not work unless you deactivate the program. This could result is a loss of previously stored network passwords.

1. Right Click on the Wireless Network Connections icon down by the system clock.
2. Choose "Open Network Connections".
3. Right Click on Wireless Network Connection -> Choose "Properties".
4. Click on the "Wireless Networks" tab.
5. Click Add (if there is a JC network already listed you will need to remove it).
   • Type JC into the Network Name box (case-sensitive).
   • Choose WPA for Network Authentication
   • Choose TKIP for Data Encryption
   • Click the Authentication tab
   • Choose Protected EAP for EAP type
   • Click on Properties
   • Uncheck "Validate Server Certificate"
   • Click on configure
   • Uncheck the automatic use of windows logon name
   • Click OK
   • Check "Enable Fast Reconnect"
   • Click OK
   • Click OK
   • Click OK

Now when you are near a JC access point you will see a balloon come up by the system clock that says : "Click here to select a certificate or other credentials for connection to the network JC" - Click on the balloon

The system will bring up a login window. (You might get two windows at that point, you want the "Enter Credentials Windows") Type your Jamestown College username and password and enter JC in the domain box, click OK. In the future, you will not need to type in the username and password again, it saves that information.

1. Right click on the network icon down by the system clock and choose "Network and Sharing Center". (It will look like 2 computer screens on top of each other.)
2. Click on "Manage Wireless Networks"
   • If there is already a "JC" or "JC_Guest", click on it and click "Remove". If both are present, remove both.
3. Click the "Add" button
4. Select "Manually Create a Network Profile"
5. Under "Network Name", type in "JC"
6. Under "Security Type" choose "WPA-Enterprise"
7. Click "Next"
8. Select "Change Connection Setting"
9. Select the "Security" tab at the top of the window
10. Click the "Settings" button in the middle of the window
11. Uncheck "Validate server certificate" at the top of the window
12. Click the "Configure..." button towards the bottom right of the window
13. Uncheck the "Automatically use my Windows...etc"
14. Click "OK".
15. Click "OK".
16. Click "OK". (A bubble will appear by the network icon that reads "Additional information is required to connect to JC". Be ready and click on this bubble when it appears. This should bring up the window for you to enter your user name and password.)
17. Enter your User name and Password. (This is NOT the Login ID and PIN that is required for Jimmie Web. If you do not have your User name and Password, please contact or stop into the Helpdesk to retrieve it.)
18. Under "Logon Domain" enter "JC". This must be capitalized.
19. Click "OK".
20. If this process did not connect you, repeat the entire process except restart the computer after step 2.a.
21. If you still can't connect, please contact the Help Desk.

Note: Once connected, in order to map the network drives or add a printer, run the JC_Network.exe. If you do not have this program, simply click on the link, save it to your desktop, right click to unzip it, and run it.

Type in your user name and password and hit enter. You will have to run this program every time you restart your computer and want to access the network drives and/or network printers.

16. Click the "Advanced settings" button towards the bottom of the window.
17. Check the "Specify authentication mode:" box.
18. Select "User authentication" from the dropdown menu.
19. Click the "Save credentials".
20. Enter your User name and Password. (If you do not have your User name and Password, please contact or stop into the Helpdesk to retrieve it.)
21. Click "OK".
22. Click "OK".
23. Click "OK".
24. If this process did not connect you, repeat the entire process except restart the computer after step 2.a.
25. If you still can't connect, please contact the Helpdesk.

1. Take your mouse to the upper right-hand corner of the screen until you see the five icons appear which allow you to make changes to your computer.
2. Click the "settings" icon which looks like a gear.
3. Click the wireless network icon which likely is labeled "available".
4. Click on "JC" or "JC-Wireless".
5. Be certain the checkbox for "connect automatically" is checked.
6. Click "connect".
7. Enter your JC username and password and click "okay".
8. A warning about the server’s identity may appear. Click connect.
9. Enjoy your stay on the JC network.
10. If you still can't connect, please contact the Helpdesk.

1. Click on the AirPort Icon in the upper right-hand corner.
2. Choose the "JC" network.
3. When the "Verify Certificate Window" comes up – Click "Continue".
4. Type in your JC username and password.
5. Check "Remember password in my keychain".
